Music

Music at Our School is an exciting and varied subject. Within the classroom curriculum, the classes study different genres of music each year. The children also look at the ‘building blocks’ of music and how these are key to the music. It is a diverse programme, incorporating music appreciation as well as giving the children the chance to perform the music and create their own. Outside the curriculum, Praise and Reflect takes place once a week, during which the children learn religious and secular songs, in unison and harmony. There is a school rock band, which meets once a week after our school with our peripatetic music teacher, which performs at assemblies termly. This is a fantastic chance both for the children to learn how to play their instruments as part of an ensemble and to be a part of a group. Our peripatetic teacher offers either individual or group lessons in ukulele, acoustic guitar and drums.

We want to foster creativity, enjoyment and expression of thoughts and feelings through active learning, inclusion, and making music together. The purpose of our music study is to engage and inspire pupils to develop a love of music, increase their self-confidence, and sense of achievement and to support pupils to develop a critical engagement with music.

We believe that music nourishes a sense of self-identity, is something we embody and that schools that have musical learning running through their veins are joyous, creative places, where you can build a sense of community and help children feel like they’re successful learners and musical beings.
